Stable Families Program
About Stable Families
The Stable Families Program is a joint program of the Fairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF) and the Bridgeport Public Housing Resident Support Fund (BPHRSF). New Haven Home Recovery (NHHR) has been selected to administer this program. The Stable Families Program will assist families with children who are members of a wide cohort of low-income public housing households in Bridgeport. Some of these households reside in public housing units. Others reside in Section 8 and other deeply subsidized housing that HACB has developed to replace demolished public housing. The Stable Families Program will help families in or on the verge of crisis access services needed to help them stabilize their tenancies and avert eviction. The fundamental assumption of the Stable Families Program is that a stable tenancy promotes a stable family life, and that a stable family life greatly improves the chances that family members will be able to improve their life circumstances and prospects.
Mission
The goals of the Stable Families Program are to improve housing and family stability and help family members improve the quality of their lives now and in the future. The Program seeks to produce the following outcomes: avert evictions and improve meeting tenant obligations; increase access to mainstream resources and entitlements; access to vocational services; increase access to and receipt of health care and behavioral health services; and increase overall housing stability.
Services
For the families accepted for intensive support services, the Stable Families Program will use a case management approach as its core mechanism for providing help. The Stable Families Program will assess the needs of each of these families, develop with each family a service plan tailored to its particular needs, and help the family implement the plan. A minimum of 25 families at a time will receive intensive support services.
